Rooftops & Sidewalks

I'm back! It was great. As usual, I took no pictures because I am terrible at remembering to do that. However, while there is no photographic evidence, there was family, food, a trip to the lake, and some serious rounds of tennis with my dad. Well, serious to me. Probably no more than a warm-up to him. :)

Now we are home and it seems like a trip away was just what was needed. Not only for the break from work and the everyday, but upon our return we found that it's starting to cool down up here! The air is crisp in the evenings now, and the humidity of last month has finally begun to dissipate. This means fall is on its way, and I couldn't be more ready for it. Looks like Sessùn couldn't hold back either - I saw their jewel-toned autumn lookbook on their blog this weekend, and it's just full fresh, cozy things.

A Little Break

It's vacation time! Corbett and I are off to Texas to see family, survive the heat, and eat our weight in guacamole. Oh TexMex, how I've missed you.

Animal Compositions

Kate of Curious Prints salvages old science textbooks and then makes those pages available to all us vintage fanatics. They remind of those studies from Animal Anatomy for Artists, so, naturally, I like them a lot.

I felt a little all over the place this week, so here's a slice of what has been inspiring/distracting me these past five days:

• Vintage crewel finds.
• These quesadillas. ZOMG so good.
• This letter from Dr. Ernst Stuhlinger, then-associate director of NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, to Sister Mary Jacunda responding to her question of why we should explore space when there are millions of children starving on earth. 
• This entire look.
• More houseplants! More, I say!

The Fine Print

You know what I love? These screen printed bags by Jacqui and Scott, the wife/husband team behind Slide Sideways. Their striking, subtly vintage-inspired design is just irresistible to me, and that goes for their graphic design work as well. Good, good stuff here.

Ahhh, Friday

Well, I know what I'd like to be doing this weekend. :) But if I can't hang out with Paul Newman on a boat, I guess sushi, bowling with new friends, and an art opening will just have to do. It will just have to! Have a nice weekend, everybody.

Clouds

Lucy Hemlock seems to capture the striking, charged atmosphere right before a summer storm in her gorgeous oil paintings. We've had some lovely, overcast weather lately which has got me all in the mood for mercurial clouds. There was a lightning storm around the Cape over the weekend, which we got to watch reflected over the sea (from the safety of our tiny hotel room). I loved every minute of it.
